The Opisso Museum at the Hotel Astoria will be open on the Nit dels Museus

The Opisso Museum opens its doors on the Nit dels Museus with an exhibition of more than 400 paintings by Ricard Opisso illustrating the 20th century

The Opissio Museum, inside the Astoria Hotel, houses the most important permanent exhibition of the illustrator Ricard Opissio & Sala (Tarragona, 1880 - Barcelona, 1966). An influential chronicler of the modernist movement, he was part of the iconic establishment Els Quatre Gats.

This impressive collection is a cultural heritage with more than 400 pieces, gathered over more than 50 years by the Clos family, presenting the many facets of the artist. The works represent the everyday life he observed in Barcelona and Paris, especially in sport, eroticism, comics and graphic humour. Apart from being an excellent point of reference, he was also known for the friendship and collaborations he shared with renowned artists such as Ramon Casas, Isidre Nonell, Pablo Picasso and Toulouse-Lautrec, the latter two featuring in some of his works.

The exhibition, comprising drawings, illustrations, oil paintings, watercolours and posters from the private art collection of Derby Hotels Collection and documentary sources of the painter's granddaughter, Mariangeles Opisso, will be open to the public on Saturday 18 May from 7 pm to 1 am at the Hotel Astoria (Diagonal / Passeig de Gràcia).
