Aura Foundation commemorates 30 years of work focused on employment and social inclusion for people with intellectual disabilities. To celebrate they have presented, together with Down Madrid, a manifesto to the Congress of Deputies about the right to dignified work.
In this act, spokesmen from both foundations highlighted before the President of the Congress of Deputies, Parliamentary Groups and organizations representing the sector, the need to strive for equal employment opportunities.
Aura Foundation works for the employment and social inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities and it introduced the programme Empleo con Apoyo (supported employment) into the country in 1989. Moreover, Down Madrid has been working for twenty-four years for the employment inclusion of people with this type of disability.
“MICHELIN STAR” EXPERIENCE
As part of the celebration, we’ve had the pleasure of sharing a very special culinary workshop together with Aura Foundation, one of the key associations in our Corporate Social Responsibility projects with which we have a close collaboration.
On this occasion, Aurelio Morales, head chef of restaurant CEBO in the Hotel Urban, recognized with it’s first Michelin star, has directed a creative cooking workshop to highlight the social inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities.
During the workshop participants of Aura Foundation and Down Madrid, with the support of Cebo’s staff, learnt to prepare different dishes, including the famous Patatas Riojana (Rioja-style potatoes). The participants also had the opportunity of learning about Protocol with Francisco Patón, Food & Beverage Director of Urban and Villa Real hotels.
21 MARCH: SOLIDARITY SOCKS
To celebrate World Down Syndrome Day on 21 March, Aura Foundation has teamed up with Jimmy Lion to launch two fun sock designs. The goal of this initiative is to promote that there is no such thing as fewer capabilities, but rather different ones, and to raise awareness on diversity.
The design printed on these socks was created by some of the foundation’s members. These will be on sale as long as stocks last and all the profits will be allocated to the foundation’s work.

JOINING HANDS WITH AURA FOUNDATION
Our collaboration with the Aura Foundation began in mid-2016 with the programme Aura Habitat. The aim of our joint effort is to promote learning and autonomy, as well as the subsequent quality employment inclusion for people with functional diversity.
